Where will we be this summer?

The Summer Reading Club will be starting up on June 23 at the Jefferson Park Community Center.

2014 SUMMER READING CLUB SCHEDULE:

Monday 6:30 pmJefferson Park Community Center
3801 Beacon Ave S near S Spokane

Thur 10:30 am –  Filipino Community Center –> Updated day and time!
5740 MLK Jr Way near S Orcas

Somali Community Services (Day/Time To Be Determined)
8810 Renton Ave S near S Henderson

Plus, we will be bringing our books to special events in the South Seattle area as requested, reading with kids, talking to parents and building community. Our first event is Sat, June 21 at REWA, where Dayna and Noah will be going to REWA’s Summer Fun and Parenting Potluck Party. We will read an Elephant and Piggie book together (our favorite!) for the REWA clients, then Dayna will be talking to the parents about tips for supporting their children while Noah makes new friends.

Our second event will be Sat, June 28 at Beacon Rocks. We will be setting up our books in the future “pocket park” near Beacon Ave S and 15th Ave S near the gas station, reading with kids and talking to parents. Please stop by and say hello if you’re there!

6/17/14 Update —

I have just confirmed with the Jefferson Park Community Center that we can host the Reading Club in their meeting room (the first room to your left as you walk into the center) on Monday nights, 6:30 p.m.  I am so thrilled that we will have a site  close to my neighborhood, and so close to Jefferson Park! This will be a great way to round out the three locations, and reach out to more families. Please join us!

4/15/14 Update —

I’m so excited to share that The Somali Community Center in Rainier Beach has invited us to have the Summer Reading Club in their space this summer! The day of the week is TBD, but we know for sure that we’ll start up in June and skip July (due to Ramadan) and then pick up again for the month of August. We will likely be there once a week, maybe on the weekends or evenings to make sure working parents can attend. I loved meeting with the Director and some of the staff, and can’t wait to meet more of the families in their community!

Tentative dates are TBD, during months of June and August

4/24/14 Update —

The Filipino Community Center in Rainier Beach has invited us to have the Summer Reading Club at their space on Wednesdays this summer! They are starting up their own program that focuses on “Feeding the Brain” with summer literacy, and we’ll be working with the kids in that program to keep them reading over the summer months.  I’m so excited to be bringing our books and volunteers to their great community! They have an amazing community center, with easy access from both the bus and light rail.

Tentative dates are mid-June through the end of August, 10-11:30 every Wednesday.
